Product Details

Stelara

Stelara is manufactured in the United States and shipped cold chain by courier from our pharmacy in India.

Stelara contains the monoclonal antibody called ustekinumab.  This is a protein that recognizes and binds to other specific proteins found throughout the body.  Stelara acts as an immunosupressant which weakens the immune system which results in treatment of mild to severe Chrohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in adults.

Information about Stelara (Ustekinumab)

Stelara (Ustekinumab) is a prescription biologic medication that belongs to the class of immunosuppressive drugs. It works by targeting specific proteins in the immune system that contribute to the inflammation and abnormal immune responses seen in certain autoimmune conditions. Stelara is used to treat chronic inflammatory diseases, including plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and Crohn's disease.

Product Highlights

  • Moderate to severe cases where phototherapy or other systemic therapies are not sufficient or suitable.
  • To reduce symptoms and improve physical function in adults with active psoriatic arthritis.
  • Moderate to severe cases in adults who have not shown adequate response to other treatments.
  • For patients who have not had a response to or are unable to tolerate other treatments.

Key Ingredient

  • Ustekinumab

Key Benefits

  • Stelara is highly effective in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life for individuals with autoimmune diseases.
  • By inhibiting IL-12 and IL-23, Stelara targets the root causes of inflammation without broadly suppressing the immune system.
  • After initial doses, maintenance doses are typically required every 8-12 weeks, reducing the frequency of injections compared to some other biologics.
  • Many patients experience long-lasting symptom control, improving overall physical function and well-being.

Direction of Use

  • Stelara is administered via a subcutaneous injection. It can be injected by a healthcare professional or by the patient themselves after proper training.
  • The initial dose is given as two injections on the same day. Maintenance dosing typically occurs every 8 weeks for most patients but can be adjusted based on the clinical response.

Safety Concerns

  • Stelara may elevate the risk of severe infections, such as tuberculosis, bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Prior screening for tuberculosis is recommended.
  • There may be a slightly increased risk of certain cancers, particularly non-melanoma skin cancers and lymphomas.
  • Some patients may experience allergic reactions, including rash, hives, or difficulty breathing. Urgent medical attention is required if these symptoms occur.
  • Stelara can affect the immune system, potentially making it less effective at fighting infections. It is essential to monitor for signs of infection.

Avoid Stelara (Ustekinumab) If

  • Patients with an active infection should not use Stelara, as it may suppress the immune system and exacerbate the infection.
  • Individuals who are allergic to Ustekinumab or any of its components should avoid Stelara.
  • While Stelara is not generally recommended during pregnancy unless necessary, it may be used cautiously in certain cases. Breastfeeding mothers should consult with their healthcare provider, as the drug may pass into breast milk.
  • Patients with a history of certain cancers (especially lymphomas or skin cancers) should avoid using Stelara, as it may increase cancer risks.
  • Patients with significant liver or kidney dysfunction may need to avoid this drug due to potential risks of side effects.
