Product Details

Valdoxan

Valdoxan is used to treat depression in adults.  Symptoms of depression often include deep sadness or worthlessness, trouble sleeping, feelings of worthlessness, anxiety, or changes in weight.  Symptoms differ from one person to another but the disturbance of mood will interfere with the life of the patient and should be treated appropriately.

Valdoxan is used to reduce and remove the symptoms of depression gradually.  Treatment is usually for a minimum of six months to ensure the best results.

Dosage usually starts at 25mg at bedtime and may be increased to the best effective dose.

Information about Valdoxan (Agomelatine)

Valdoxan, which contains the active ingredient agomelatine, is an antidepressant medication primarily used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. It works by targeting both the melatonin receptors (which regulate the sleep-wake cycle) and serotonin receptors, offering a unique mechanism of action compared to traditional antidepressants. Valdoxan has minimal impact on serotonin reuptake, making it different from other classes of antidepressants.

Product Highlights

  • Valdoxan is primarily used for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adults. It helps improve mood, energy levels, and sleep, which can be disrupted in individuals with depression.
  • Agomelatine is effective in addressing insomnia and other sleep problems often associated with depression, as it helps regulate circadian rhythms.

Key Ingredient

  • Agomelatine

Key Benefits

  • Agomelatine regulates the body's circadian rhythm, leading to better sleep patterns and improved quality of rest, which is essential for individuals suffering from depression.
  • It helps alleviate depressive symptoms, such as sadness, low energy, and lack of motivation, improving overall mood and well-being.
  • In contrast to many other antidepressants, Valdoxan is linked to a lower risk of sexual dysfunction.
  • Valdoxan does not cause physical dependence or withdrawal symptoms when treatment is discontinued, making it a safer option for long-term use.
  • Agomelatine generally does not cause significant weight gain or loss, unlike some other antidepressants.

Direction of Use

  • Valdoxan is typically taken once daily, preferably at bedtime, as it helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle.
  • It should be taken with food, as this improves absorption and reduces potential gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Follow the dosing instructions provided by your doctor. The standard dose is usually 25 mg per day, but this may be adjusted based on individual response.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. Do not double up on doses to make up for a missed one.

Safety Concerns

  • Valdoxan can cause liver toxicity, so liver function should be monitored regularly during treatment. If significant liver problems are detected, treatment should be stopped.
  • Common side effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, and sleep disturbances. However, these tend to be mild and may decrease over time.
  • Some patients may experience increased anxiety or agitation when starting treatment, although this is rare.
  • Agomelatine can interact with other drugs, especially those affecting liver enzymes (e.g., certain antifungals, antivirals, and other antidepressants). Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you're taking.
  • Alcohol should be consumed with caution while taking Valdoxan, as it may increase side effects like dizziness or drowsiness.

Avoid Valdoxan (Agomelatine) If

  • Valdoxan is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment (e.g., cirrhosis) or elevated liver enzymes (AST/ALT).
  • If you have a known allergy to agomelatine or any of the other ingredients in the medication, you should avoid it.
  • Valdoxan is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its safety has not been confirmed in these situations.
  • While Valdoxan is effective in treating depression, it should be used with caution in patients with severe depression or suicidal tendencies, as with all antidepressants.
  • If you have significant kidney problems, consult with your doctor, as agomelatine may not be suitable for you.
