Be prepared with Amoxicillin 250mg and 500mg capsules

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type drug

Amoxicillin is a first line threatment along with Cephalexin
Lower Respiratory Infection 500mg every 8 hours or 850mg every 12 hours 5 to 10 days Amoxicillin, Tetracycline, Azithromycin (Zpac), Doxycycline and Clarithromyin (Biaxin) are all first line therapies for lower respiratory infections

 

  • DO NOT TAKE WITH OTHER ANTIBIOTICS
  • Not used for viral infections (common cold etc)
  • Used with other medicines for stomach ulcers (not on its own)
  • Do not take if allergic to penicillin class of medicine
  • Stop if rash develops or other serious side effects
  • Never use as a preventative medicine, only use when required and try to take for at least 3 days in a row once started
  • If any kidney issues or serious medical conditions, see your doctor before starting any antibiotic
  • For any severe infection, go to your doctor or emergency care provider

 

Usually there are no side effects with amoxicillin but the most common ones include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Rash
  • Allergic reaction
  • Anemia

See your doctor if you have any serious side effects.

Amoxicillin can interact with the following medicines

  • Allopurinol and Probeneci (used commonly for gout)
  • Anticoagulants like Eliquis, Pradaxa, Lixiana, Xarelto, Coumadin (warfarin)
  • Contraceptives (use additional birth control methods)
  • Methotrexate (commonly used in cancer treatments)
