Information about Verquvo (vericiguat)

Verquvo (Vericiguat) is a medication used to treat heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). It works by stimulating the soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) enzyme, which helps to relax blood vessels, reduce the strain on the heart, and improve its function. Verquvo is used in combination with other heart failure treatments to reduce the risk of heart failure-related hospitalizations and death.

Product Highlights

  • Specifically for adults with symptomatic chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction to reduce the risk of heart failure-related hospitalization and death.
  • Used alongside other therapies to improve heart function and reduce symptoms of heart failure.

Key Ingredient

  • Vericiguat

Key Benefits

  • Helps relax blood vessels, reducing the burden on the heart and improving its pumping efficiency.
  • Significantly decreases the risk of hospitalization due to heart failure-related complications.
  • By managing symptoms and improving heart function, Verquvo can enhance daily living and reduce heart failure-related symptoms like fatigue and shortness of breath.
  • When used with other medications, it can significantly improve outcomes in people with HFrEF.

Direction of Use

  • Verquvo is taken once daily, usually with or without food.
  • The recommended starting dose is typically 2.5 mg once daily, with gradual titration to 5 mg once daily as tolerated, under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
  • Take Verquvo regularly as prescribed, and do not skip doses. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible, unless it’s almost time for your next dose.

Safety Concerns

  • Common side effects include headache, low blood pressure (hypotension), dizziness, and nausea.
  • Verquvo can cause low blood pressure, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose. Monitoring is essential to avoid severe hypotension.
  • Verquvo can affect kidney function, so kidney function should be monitored regularly during treatment.
  • Verquvo may interact with medications that affect blood pressure or the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). Always inform your healthcare provider about other medications you are taking.
  • Verquvo is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its safety in these populations has not been established.

Avoid Verquvo (Vericiguat) If

  • If you are allergic to vericiguat or any components of the medication, avoid using it.
  • Avoid Verquvo if you have low blood pressure or a condition that causes significantly low blood pressure.
  • Verquvo should not be used during pregnancy, as it may harm the fetus.
  • Use with caution in patients with severe liver impairment, as the drug is metabolized in the liver.
  • Verquvo should not be used together with nitrates or nitrites (medications for chest pain) due to the risk of dangerously low blood pressure.
