Information about Rhopressa eye drops (Netarsudil)
Rhopressa (Netarsudil) is an eye drop solution prescribed to treat elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by reducing the pressure inside the eye, helping to prevent damage to the optic nerve, which is associated with glaucoma. Rhopressa is typically prescribed when other treatments do not adequately control intraocular pressure.
Product Highlights
- Rhopressa is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma, a common form of glaucoma that occurs when the eye’s drainage system becomes less effective.
- Used for patients who have high intraocular pressure without the onset of glaucoma. The medication helps to reduce the risk of developing glaucoma.
Key Ingredient
Key Benefits
- Effectively lowers intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension, helping to prevent further damage to the optic nerve.
- Typically administered once a day, offering convenience for patients.
- Provides a different mechanism of action compared to other glaucoma treatments, making it a suitable option for patients who do not respond well to other therapies.
- As an eye drop, it primarily acts locally, minimizing systemic side effects compared to oral medications.
Direction of Use
- Instill one drop of Rhopressa in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening, or as directed by a healthcare provider.
- Tilt the head slightly backward, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and apply one drop into the lower conjunctival sac. Close your eyes and gently press the inner corner of your eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute to help keep the medication from draining out.
- Make sure the dropper does not come into contact with the eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
Safety Concerns
- Common side effects include mild irritation, burning, or stinging in the eye immediately after use.
- Rhopressa may cause eye redness or increased blood vessels in the eye.
- Some users may experience blurred vision, especially right after administration. It is important to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until your vision clears.
- Though rare, there could be some systemic absorption leading to side effects such as dizziness or headache.
- In rare instances, allergic reactions like swelling, itching, or a rash may occur.

- Refrain from using if you have an allergy to netarsudil or any of the other ingredients in Rhopressa.

- Rhopressa should not be used in patients with active eye infections, such as conjunctivitis or corneal ulcers.
- Rhopressa is not recommended for use in children under the age of 18 due to insufficient safety data.
