Information about Reyvow (Lasmiditan)

Reyvow is a prescription medication that contains lasmiditan, a selective serotonin 5-HT1F receptor agonist. It is used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults. Reyvow works by targeting serotonin receptors in the brain to help relieve migraine symptoms. Unlike some other migraine treatments, it does not cause vasoconstriction, which makes it a suitable option for people with cardiovascular concerns.

Product Highlights

  • Reyvow is mainly prescribed for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults.
  • It helps alleviate the symptoms of an ongoing migraine, including headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Key Ingredient

  • Lasmiditan

Key Benefits

  • Reyvow effectively reduces the severity of migraine attacks, providing relief from both the headache and associated symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity.
  • Unlike triptans and other migraine medications, Reyvow does not cause vasoconstriction, making it a safer option for individuals with cardiovascular conditions.
  • Reyvow typically provides relief within two hours of administration, helping to reduce the duration of the migraine attack.
  • Reyvow does not carry the risk of medication overuse headache that is associated with frequent use of other migraine medications.

Direction of Use

  • The usual dose of Reyvow is 50 mg, but it can be increased to 100 mg if the 50 mg dose is not effective. A second dose may be taken if needed after 24 hours, but no more than two doses should be taken in 24 hours.
  • Take Reyvow orally, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Take Reyvow as soon as possible after the onset of a migraine attack for the best results.
  • Reyvow is taken as needed for acute migraine attacks, so missed doses are not typically a concern. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Safety Concerns

  • Reyvow can cause drowsiness and impair cognitive and motor function. Refrain from driving or operating heavy machinery until you understand how Reyvow affects you.
  • Reyvow can interact with other medications, especially CNS depressants and other medications that affect serotonin levels. Make sure to inform your healthcare provider of all other medications you are taking.
  • When used with other drugs that affect serotonin, there is a risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition. Symptoms may include agitation, confusion, fever, and muscle rigidity.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, as lasmiditan is processed in the liver.
  • The safety of Reyvow during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been confirmed. Contact your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Avoid Reyvow (Lasmiditan) If

  • You are allergic to lasmiditan or any of the components in the medication.
  • You have a history of serotonin syndrome or are taking medications that increase the risk of serotonin syndrome.
  • You have severe liver problems, as Reyvow is metabolized in the liver.
  • You are taking other CNS depressants, such as benzodiazepines, opioids, or alcohol, as this may enhance the sedative effects.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the safety of Reyvow in these conditions has not been fully established.
  • You have a history of heart disease or other cardiovascular issues, as Reyvow may have effects on the cardiovascular system, though it is not vasoconstrictive like some other migraine treatments.
