Information about Rexulti (Brexpiprazole)
Rexulti is a prescription medication that contains brexpiprazole, an atypical antipsychotic used to treat certain mental health conditions. It works by affecting the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly serotonin and dopamine, to help improve mood, thoughts, and behavior. Rexulti is commonly prescribed alongside other medications to treat conditions such as schizophrenia and major depressive disorder (MDD).
Product Highlights
Rexulti is used to treat schizophrenia in adults, helping to manage symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized thinking.
Rexulti is used as an adjunctive treatment for MDD in adults, typically in combination with an antidepressant when other treatments have not been effective.
Key Ingredient
Brexpiprazole
Key Benefits
Rexulti can help reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia, improving mood, thought patterns, and behavior.
It can be added to existing antidepressant therapy to improve symptoms of major depressive disorder when other treatments are not sufficiently effective.
Rexulti is often better tolerated than some other antipsychotic medications, with a potentially lower risk of certain side effects like weight gain and sedation.
Some patients may experience improvements in cognitive function and social interactions as their psychiatric symptoms are better managed.
Direction of Use
Rexulti is typically taken once daily, with or without food, as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
The usual starting dose for adults with schizophrenia or MDD is generally low and may be gradually increased.
Follow the prescribed dosage instructions carefully, as the amount you need will depend on your specific condition and response to treatment.
It is important to take the medication consistently at the same time every day for best results.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for the missed dose.

Safety Concerns
In some cases, particularly in younger patients, brexpiprazole may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, especially when first starting the medication or changing doses. Close monitoring is essential.
A rare but serious side effect, NMS can cause symptoms like fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, and altered mental status. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms occur.
Like other antipsychotics, Rexulti may lead to weight gain, increased blood sugar, and increased cholesterol levels, requiring regular monitoring.
Long-term use of antipsychotics, including Rexulti, can result in involuntary muscle movements, known as tardive dyskinesia. Early detection and monitoring are important.
Rexulti can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or sedation, especially when first starting the medication or increasing the dose.
Rexulti may cause low blood pressure or orthostatic hypotension, leading to dizziness or fainting when standing up quickly.
