Information about Teveten (Eprosartan)

Teveten is the brand name for eprosartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels, leading to a decrease in blood pressure. Eprosartan is generally used as part of a treatment plan to help reduce the risk of complications from hypertension, such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems.

Product Highlights

  • Teveten is used to manage and lower blood pressure in individuals with hypertension, helping to prevent complications like stroke, heart attack, or kidney damage.
  • In some cases, Teveten is prescribed to protect kidney function in individuals with certain kidney diseases, especially when hypertension is also present.

Key Ingredient

  • Eprosartan

Key Benefits

  • Helps lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications.
  • Offers protection against kidney damage in patients with high blood pressure or chronic kidney disease.
  • Unlike some other blood pressure medications, eprosartan does not typically cause diuresis (increased urination), making it more suitable for some individuals.
  • Eprosartan is generally well-tolerated with fewer side effects compared to other antihypertensive medications.

Direction of Use

  • The usual starting dose for adults is 600 mg once a day, which may be adjusted depending on the patient's response to the medication. The usual maintenance dose ranges from 400 mg to 800 mg per day.
  • Teveten tablets should be taken orally, with or without food, once daily. It’s important to take the medication at the same time each day to help remember.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at once to make up for the missed dose.

Safety Concerns

  • Eprosartan can affect kidney function, so regular monitoring of kidney health is recommended, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
  • Can lead to high potassium levels (hyperkalemia), which can be dangerous if left untreated.
  • Especially during the initial stages of treatment, eprosartan may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness or fainting.
  • Eprosartan should not be used during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, as it may harm the fetus. It is also not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • Like other ARBs, eprosartan may cause angioedema (swelling of the deeper layers of the skin), including swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue, which can be serious.

Avoid Teveten (Eprosartan) If

  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, especially in the second or third trimester.
  • You are breastfeeding, as eprosartan may pass into breast milk.
  • You have a history of severe kidney disease or are undergoing dialysis.
  • You have high potassium levels (hyperkalemia), as eprosartan can exacerbate this condition.
  • You are allergic to eprosartan or any of the ingredients in Teveten.
  • You have a history of angioedema related to the use of an angiotensin II receptor blocker or ACE inhibitor.
