Tybost (Cobicistat)

Prescription Tybost contains 150mg cobicistat, is used in the treatment of adults with HIV-1, the virus causing AIDS. Tybost is not used alone but is given to boost the effects of darunavir, atazanavir and tenofovir alafenamide which are standard HIV treatments.

Tybost is given once per day with food. Tybost is often given with 300mg atazanavir or 800mg darunavir. Tybost blocks the enzyme CYP3A which breaks down these medicines (and others). By blocking this enzyme, these medicines remain in the body for a prolonged length of time preventing the HIV virus from spreading or causing further damage.

Because Tybost will block this enzyme, many drugs can be effected in the body, potentially increasing the risk of side effects of those medicines. You may need to adjust your other medicine doses when starting Tybost.

Tybost is not combined with HIV medicines containing cobicistat or ritonavir.
