Prescription Promacta contains the active ingredient eltrombopag for the treatment of primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), thrombocytopenia in adults with long term hepatitis C, and acquired severe aplastic anaemia. For treatment of ITP, Promacta is used in patients over 1 year of age who have suffered from the disease for at least 6 months where other medicines have not worked. Revolade is given for thrombocytopenia when the condition is too severe to allow interferon therapy for hepatitis C. Revolade is used for acquired severe aplastic anaemia in adults when immunosuppressive medicines do not control the condition and when the patient cannot receive stem cell transplantation.

Revolade works by stimulating thrombopoietin receptors to increase the production of platelets, improving platelet count in the patient.

The Promacta dose depends on the age and disease of the patient adjusted to maintain the proper level of platelets. Take Promacta as directed by your physician and do not change the dose or time of dose unless you are advised by your physician. Promacta may take from 1 to 2 weeks to work. Based on the response to therapy, your physician may modify your dose.
