Information about Cosopt Preservative-Free (Dorzolamide/Timolol)

Cosopt Preservative-Free is an eye drop medication used to manage elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It combines two active ingredients: dorzolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and timolol, a non-selective beta-blocker, in a formulation that excludes preservatives. This preservative-free version is ideal for patients with sensitive eyes or those who react adversely to preservatives, offering the same efficacy in lowering IOP while minimizing potential irritation.

Product Highlights

  • Designed for patients who are sensitive to preservatives or have conditions that may be aggravated by them.
  • Incorporates both dorzolamide and timolol in a single, preservative-free formulation for enhanced efficacy.
  • To control and lower elevated intraocular pressure
  • To lower IOP and help prevent damage to the optic nerve.

Key Ingredient

  • Dorzolamide
  • Timolol

Key Benefits

  • Effective in lowering elevated intraocular pressure to help manage glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
  • The absence of preservatives makes it suitable for patients with sensitive eyes or those at risk of preservative-induced irritation.
  • Combines two effective agents into one formulation, enhancing adherence and reducing the need for multiple eye drops.

Direction of Use

  • Typically, one drop is administered into the affected eye(s) twice daily, in the morning and evening.
  • Gently place one drop into the conjunctival sac of the eye. Avoid letting the dropper tip come into contact with the eye or any surface to prevent contamination.
  • Follow the prescribed dosage and do not use more than the recommended amount.

Safety Concerns

  • May include eye irritation, burning, stinging, or blurred vision.
  • Potential systemic effects from timolol include decreased heart rate, blood pressure changes, and respiratory issues.

Avoid Cosopt Preservative-Free (Dorzolamide/Timolol) If

  • You are allergic to dorzolamide, timolol, or any component of the medication.

  • Consult with a healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the safety of Cosopt in these situations is not well-established.
